Madhopatti has 75 households – and an astounding 51 IAS or PCS officers.

Some youngsters from the village have also found successful careers with ISRO, BARC, Judicial Services and even the World Bank.

Education has always played a crucial role in this district. Much of this is thanks to an initiative launched by a freedom fighter and his wife.

Back in 1917, freedom fighter Thakur Bhagwati Din Singh asked his wife Shyamrati Singh to start teaching the village girls. Soon, the boys also joined her.

For 22 years, Shyamrati taught the village children, without paying any fees. Today, she is remembered as ‘Guruji’ in the village, that also has a ‘Srimati Shyamrati Singh Prathmik Vidyalaya’.

To date, her family has given six IAS officers.

Interestingly, Madhopatti also holds the record for 4 IAS siblings – Vinay Kumar Singh, Chatrapal Singh, Ajay Kumar Singh, & Shashikant Singh. Vinay Kumar retired as the chief secretary of Bihar while Chatrapal was the chief secretary of Tamil Nadu!
