The world’s rarest and most stunning frogs

Most people walk through a forest looking up at the trees.
But the real magic? It's often beneath your feet.

Hidden under damp leaves and rotting logs in the Western Ghats lives one of the world’s rarest and most stunning frogs: Melanobatrachus indicus.

With a body flecked like stardust, shades of orange and blue, and skin that almost glows, it looks less like an amphibian and more like a tiny galaxy.

And yet, it vanished for nearly a hundred years. Rediscovered in 1997, this elusive species now survives in just three known pockets — the Periyar Tiger Reserve, Kalakad, and Indira Gandhi National Park.

It’s not just rare. It’s one of a kind. And in a world racing forward, it’s a quiet warning: Lose the forest, and we lose magic that may never return.
