The Last Line Between Mumbai and the Next Flood

Advertisment

Tucked between high-rises and highways, Mumbai’s mangroves are doing more than we think.

The economic and ecosystem services valuation of mangroves ranges from ₹3,535 million in Pichavaram to ₹664 billion in the Sundarbans. This reflects the true ecological and economic value of mangroves, making it vital to include and benefit local communities who depend on these ecosystems.

But as development chips away at this natural shield, a unique coalition is stepping in. Scientists, planners, citizens, and one company that’s been protecting mangroves for over 4 decades are coming together to save what's left and grow what’s possible.
