At 67, Dr. Shankar Lal Garg began planting trees on barren, rocky land in Madhya Pradesh’s Malwa Plateau. With no fertilisers, no pesticides, and little money, he turned dry soil into a thriving 22-acre forest with banyan, teak, mango—even saffron and avocados.

"Plant just one tree—it can give life, fight disasters, feed generations, and heal the planet," he shares. Today, Keshar Parvat is alive with birds, jackals, wild pigs—and hope. His forest has over 40,000 trees, and he’s not done yet.
