Did you know that 30–50 open wells in every village of rural Maharashtra act as silent death traps for wildlife?
While these wells provide a critical water source for villagers living on forest fringes, they pose a serious threat to animals like deer, leopards, nilgai, hyenas, and jackals.
On a scorching afternoon, one such blackbuck fell into a deep, dry well. When the call came in, the team from ManWithIndies and the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Forest Department rushed to the rescue.
With a customised rescue plan and species-specific care, they managed to calm the panicked blackbuck using a specially designed cage and brought her to safety. After immediate medical attention, she was released back into the wild — where she belongs.
This rescue shows how small changes, like covering open wells, can save countless lives.
