In the lanes of Panjim, Goa, a cycle slowly winds its way through traffic, carrying pots of freshly cooked food.
On it sits Maria Gomes, fondly known as Maria Aunty, who feeds over 300 stray dogs across the city every single day.
Her journey is as humble as it is heroic. Forced into child labour at a tender age, Maria never had the chance to dream big.
But years later, she found her purpose in an unlikely place, on the streets, among wagging tails and hungry eyes.
She wakes up at dawn, cooks large batches of food, loads her cycle, and sets off on a route she knows by heart.
From abandoned pups to old dogs, no one stops to notice; they all wait for her. Some wag, some follow, some just sit silently, knowing she’ll show up. Because she always does — rain or shine.
