India's space agency, ISRO, achieved a major milestone on Sunday with the flawless landing of their reusable launch vehicle, nicknamed "Pushpak."
This third and final test, conducted in Chitradurga, Karnataka, pushed the boundaries by simulating a launch in more challenging condition with a larger off-course deviation and stronger winds.
By guiding Pushpak to a flawless landing despite these challenges, ISRO has proven its mastery of critical technologies for reusable launch vehicles (RLVs).
Reusable launch vehicles, like Pushpak, can take satellites to space and then return to Earth for landing, just like an airplane. This significantly reduces launch costs compared to traditional expendable rockets, making space exploration more affordable and accessible.
“This mission simulates the approach & landing interface and high-speed landing conditions for a vehicle returning from space, which will reaffirm ISRO’s expertise in acquiring the most critical technologies required for the development of a Reusable Launch Vehicle (RLV),” ISRO said.
