Hero Protects River from 1,000 Tonnes of Waste

Advertisment

For 10 years, Nashik’s Chandra Kishore Patil has stood guard by the Nandini River, whistle in hand—stopping people from dumping waste. Mocked, threatened, and even abused, he didn’t give up.
“I’ve grown up drinking this river’s water. Today, people dump syringes, bottles, even delivery cargo into it. But to me, this river is like a mother. Keeping it clean is my duty.”
Thanks to his efforts, over 1,000 tonnes of waste has been stopped—and now even former polluters help keep it clean.
