On the mystical Ross Island of the Andamans, where ruins whisper stories of the past, Anuradha Rao has spent 25 years writing a story of her own.
Not with ink, but with kindness.
A fourth-generation resident whose ancestors arrived as prisoners before India's independence Anuradha has spent over 25 years nurturing a unique bond with the island's deer.
"I came here as a young child; I saw deer here and used to provide them with food. I had a great bond with the deer of this island," she shared with TOI.
Over time, the deer began to trust her—and even wait for her.
“Two of my deer are now 17 years old. I’ve known them since they were babies,” she added with quiet pride.
Her story reminds us: you don’t need a spotlight to make a difference.
