New Update

In the Dhalbhumgarh block of East Singhbhum, there’s a little village where art isn’t just made—it’s lived.

Welcome to Amadubi-Panijiya, home to around 40 Chitrakar families who’ve been practising Paitkar scroll painting for generations. It’s one of India’s oldest folk art forms, created using tree bark and leaves, and painted with natural pigments—red from gerua pathar (hematite), yellow from haldi (turmeric), and black from lamp soot.

Each scroll tells a story—of gods, village legends, and everyday life—all through intricate, handmade art that’s entirely eco-friendly.

The best part? You can walk through the village, chat with the artists in their homes, watch them bring stories to life on scrolls, and even take a piece home with you.

It’s a quiet, beautiful window into rural Jharkhand’s art and culture—and a powerful way to support local artisans.
