In a heartwarming effort to protect Assam’s endangered golden langurs, four hanging canopy bridges have been installed over NH-117 in Bongaigaon.

This innovative solution — a joint effort by the district administration, forest department, NHIDCL, and locals — ensures these primates can safely cross the highway without facing electrocution or accidents.

With the expansion of NH-117, the highway widened to 30 metres, making it nearly impossible for langurs to move between habitats. Determined to find a solution, authorities acted swiftly and installed the first canopy bridge on January 9 — and within just five days, langurs were seen using it!

Encouraged by this positive response, three more bridges were installed, all built with sturdy, plastic-coated materials and wires, ensuring long-term safety for these primates.

This is how coexistence wins — by protecting wildlife while fostering development.💚
