In a heartwarming rescue mission, the Assam Forest Department successfully reunited an abandoned elephant calf with its herd.

At 5 AM on 2 September, the Forest staff in Kathanibari, Borgang, under the Sonitpur East Forest Division, were alerted to a calf trapped in a pit at Borbeel Tea Estate.

Led by Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Biswa Jyoti Das, a dedicated team responded promptly. The distressed calf, estimated to be two to three months old, had been separated from its herd. It was crying and searching for its mother.

The rescue operation was a delicate balance of expertise and compassion. The team carefully moved the calf from the dangerous situation and provided immediate care.

They then led the search for the herd, using drones and tracking their footprints. After a meticulous search, when the herd was located in a nearby area, the calf was transported and successfully reunited with its mother.

The successful operation shared in a video by @assamforest on 'X' showcased the the department’s unwavering dedication to wildlife conservation. 🐘❤️
