From the lanes of Rajasthan’s Sikar district to the roof of the world, Sub-Inspector Geeta Samota has become the first woman CISF officer to conquer Mount Everest.

But this wasn’t just a climb. It was a bold answer to every stereotype thrown her way.

Once a national-level hockey player, a serious injury ended her sports dreams.
So she carved out a new one in mountaineering.

In 2015, she was the only woman in her mountaineering batch at the ITBP institute in Auli.

In 2017, the first CISF personnel to complete the advanced mountaineering course.

And in 2025, she stood atop Everest at 8,849 meters, where the air is thin but the triumph is thick.

She’s also the fastest Indian woman to scale four of the Seven Summits across four continents in just six months and 27 days.

“Mountains are great levellers. They don’t care about your gender. Only those with that X-factor can conquer those heights," Geeta Samota told The Tribune.

And now, inspired by her courage, CISF is planning to send its first full mountaineering team to Everest in 2026.
