Every time you fry or cook, what happens to the leftover oil?

Reusing it repeatedly forms toxic compounds that can lead to heart disease, stroke, and even cancer—a silent health hazard in many kitchens.

But disposing of it isn’t any better. Pouring it down the drain clogs pipes, damages sewage systems, and contaminates water sources. Just 1 litre of oil can pollute up to 1 million litres of water!

And dumping it in landfills? That leads to soil contamination and methane emissions, worsening climate change.

So, what’s the solution? While hotels and restaurants recycle their used oil, households lack a proper system. Why? Because a structured collection system doesn’t exist yet.

But imagine if every home could easily collect and repurpose used cooking oil. The IPCA Research Centre is working to build this system. If you have ideas or want to be part of the change, join them and make a difference!
