A heartwarming tale of kindness and perseverance has emerged from Madhya Pradesh. DSP Santosh Patel, a rising star in the police force, recently tracked down Salman Khan, a vegetable vendor whose simple act of generosity had a profound impact on his life.
Back in 2009-10, Patel was a struggling engineering student in Bhopal, facing financial hardships.
During those challenging times, Khan, a fellow struggler, extended a helping hand by offering Patel free vegetables.
"I'm the first graduate in my family of 120 people in Panna," Patel told The Indian Express. "I went to Bhopal to study engineering against all odds and then prepared for the MP Public Service Commission. There were days when I didn't have money to buy food."
Patel said that he used to take on odd jobs and even studied by the light of a kerosene lamp. "That's when I became friends with Khan. He was kind enough to feed me tomatoes and brinjal. He has a heart of gold," he added.
Khan echoed the same sentiment, "He was just like me — a poor man. We understood each other. I gave him vegetables at times; it's not a big deal."
Despite initial setbacks, Patel completed his engineering degree, worked as a forest guard, and eventually cracked the MP Public Service Commission exam in 2017.
Finally, during a training session in Bhopal this month, Patel spotted Khan at the same place where their friendship had blossomed years ago. "I tried to meet him all these years but was never posted in Bhopal," Patel said.
Their recent reunion, a heartwarming moment captured in Bhopal, is a testament to the enduring power of human kindness.
