When a kitten fell into a 50‑ft well in Mangaluru, dozens hesitated, but Rajani Damodhar Shetty didn’t.

She tied a rope around her waist, descended into the darkness, and wrapped a fragile rescue loop around the trembling cat. Minutes later, both emerged safe, sound, and forever changed.

This brave soul isn’t new to heroism. Over two decades, she’s rescued reptiles, birds, stray dogs and cats, often climbing into abandoned wells to save them.

“My aim is to inspire people. I want them to help stray animals and birds in distress, whether they are injured or sick. People should not turn a blind eye to the sufferings of animals and birds,” she shared with TNIE.
