Fitness By The Sea: Kannur Gets India's 1st Open Gym-On-A-Beach, 'The Amphibian'!

Trips to the beach always make me happy; and with a coastline of approximately 7,500km and over 200 beaches to choose from, I’m sure that most Indians would also admit to feeling the same, every time a beach trip is planned!

Apart from going for a walk or a jog on the seashore, have you ever considered the possibility of working out by the seaside?

No, we are not joking because Kannur’s Payyambalam beach just became the first beach in the country to introduce an open-air gym, barely 150 metres from the sea!

'The Amphibian: Where Man Meets Sea' is a project flagged off by Mir Mohammed Ali, the district collector of Kannur, and a self-professed 'aquaphile.'

Besides regular workout equipment for adults, this beachside gym also has a special section for children, which includes a mini rock-climbing wall!

The Amphibian was inaugurated yesterday by Ramachandran Kadanapally, the State Minister for Ports, who sportingly tried his hand at one of the exercise machines.
