A 15-year-old girl is going against her family's wishes, all for the sake of education.
She braves 4 hours of daily bus travel, and long walks, just to go to school in the remote Ippagunta village in Ponnalur mandal in Prakasam district.
The girl's sad plight, surfaced when she was "rescued" by para-legal volunteer BV Sagar, at the behest of District Legal Services Authority Secretary, T Raja Venkatadri.
The child was living with her uncle and grandmother since childhood. Refusing to put up with the constant pressure from her family to marry her 25-year-old maternal uncle, she shifted to Kondareddypalem where her parents live, in the middle of the academic year. She also refused to drop out of the Zilla Parishad School.

Life is tough for the girl, as she is appearing for her SSC examination later this year. She travels for two hours every day in the morning, and two hours in the evening; first taking a bus from Kondareddypalem in VV Palem Mandal to Kandukur town, and then another bus from Kandukur to Ippagunta.
The family's harassment didn't stop, even after she left her grandmother’s house. Her uncle would allegedly stalk her, make frequent visits to her school, and demand to see her bus tickets.

It is indeed a difficult situation for the child and this is probably why Sagar, who was moved by her plight, is helping her by trying to arrange for her admission in a residential school.
