A recent shocking CCTV video captures a man and a woman struggling to fix the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) leak before an explosion consumes the room. Fortunately, open doors and windows allowed gas to escape, lessening the explosion’s impact and saving their lives.
1) Authorised purchase Always buy LPG cylinders from authorised dealers complying with safety standards and regulations. Use only BIS-approved (Bureau of Indian Standards) appliances and obtain BIS-approved regulators and Suraksha rubber tubes from authorised distributors.
2) Check on delivery and ensure maintenance Ensure the cylinder has an intact company seal and safety cap. Get your gas appliances serviced periodically by a distributor’s mechanic. Avoid self-repairs.
3) Correct cylinder position Keep the cylinder upright at ground level and the stove on a higher platform. Never store it in enclosed cabinets or pits.
4) Safety and ventilation In case of leaks, open windows and doors, extinguish all flames, and avoid operating electrical switches.
5) Safe Storage Store empty cylinders in a well-ventilated, cool place with the safety cap on.
6) Emergency protocols Use the safety cap during leakage and call your distributor or emergency services immediately.
7) Avoid nearby combustibles Do not store cylinders near heat sources or direct sunlight, and avoid placing shelves or curtains near the stove.
8) Proper use and monitoring Turn off regulators and stove knobs after use, and regularly check cylinders for damage or rust.
