More people are embracing sustainable living, yet electric vehicles (EVs) come with challenges like range anxiety and the future of current petrol vehicles.

But a startup in Bengaluru might have the solution to both these problems.

Founded by Ashish Dokania, ‘Green Tiger Mobility’ is a startup that converts your existing two-wheeler into a hybrid electric vehicle. In his own words, “It’s like having two scooters in one.”

While working in the renewable energy sector, he realised that with more and more Indians moving towards EVs, there will soon be a gap in the supply of renewable electricity.

This realisation made him think of a viable solution. “And that’s why we built the hybrid as a retrofit solution to give a bridge to 25 crore existing two-wheeler riders in the country towards a greener tomorrow,” he says.

When discussing the conversion process, he explains, “Our conversion process essentially involves integrating the entire motor and electric powertrain onto a petrol vehicle without displacing the original petrol engine.”

Furthermore, the converted vehicle is equipped with a controller and a smart display that indicates the remaining battery level and the current operating mode.

Currently, the company is in the process of converting scooters from seven major brands — Honda Activa, Honda Dio, Hero Maestro, Hero Pleasure, TVS Wego, TVS Jupiter, and Suzuki Access. These conversions pertain to vehicles registered on or after 2012.

The company, he says, has received ARAI & RTO approval to convert all major brands of scooters up to 125cc. The total cost for the conversion, including battery and charger, is Rs 55,000, with an optional Rs 5,000 upgrade for a smart system offering comprehensive telematics features.

Currently present only in Bengaluru, the company has converted over 50 vehicles into their hybrid models so far.
