Suhani Shah Left School at 7 to Become a Magician — She’s Just Won the  'Oscars of Magic' For India

Once dismissed as street entertainment, magic in India just had a breakthrough moment. Suhani Shah becomes the first Indian to win the Best Magic Creator title at the FISM World Championship.

At just 6, Suhani told her father she wanted to be a magician.  Instead of laughing it off, he said: “Don’t settle for party tricks. Build a real stage show.”

By 7, she had left school for good, choosing the stage over classrooms. Her real education came from real-life experiences, backstage rehearsals, and her parents, who stood by her dream every step of the way.

Two trucks full of props. A small crew. And endless dusty stages became her childhood reality. Village by village, Suhani built her stage — not with shortcuts, but with sheer passion.

By 14, she was a seasoned performer. And when her father said, “Write your story,” she published her first book — as a teenager.

But even after hundreds of shows, she knew her purpose was bigger than magic alone. At 18, Suhani opened a hypnotherapy clinic in Goa, using her skills to help people fight addictions, anxiety, and emotional struggles.

At 27, Suhani made a comeback — not just as a magician, but as India’s first female mentalist.

Mentalism wasn’t about illusions anymore. It was about understanding human minds, predicting reactions, and creating moments that felt like real magic.

Over 5,000 shows and nearly 30 years later, Suhani redefined what magic means in India.

Then came the moment that changed history. At the FISM World Championship, known globally as the Oscars of Magic, Suhani Shah became the first Indian ever to win.

“It was never about trophies,” she says. “I just wanted to change how people see a magician — not a man in a cape, but someone like me.”

From a little girl with no map, to the world’s biggest stage, Suhani’s journey proves one thing: “Magic happens when you don’t stop.”
