From Film Sets to Farms: Why She Quit Bollywood Career To Grow Vegetables In A Village

During a thoughtful conversation, Anil Rajguru asked his daughter, Sneha, “What do you want to do in life?” At this point, Sneha was immersed in her career as a script supervisor in Mumbai, contributing to films like ‘Bulbul’ and ‘Luka Chhupi’.

While successful in the film industry, Sneha realised her true calling lay in farming, not filmmaking.

Her passion for nature was ignited during a transformative 52-day stay on a permaculture farm in West Bengal.

“The village lifestyle — eating raw and nutritional organic food with zero pesticides — was an eye-opener. It made me concerned about the quality of food we’re consuming in cities,” she says.

Encouraged by her father and inspired by a desire to connect with nature, she decided to leave Mumbai and her film career behind to move back to Pune.

Armed with permaculture knowledge, Sneha and her father found a plot of barren land near Pune ideal for creating a sustainable haven.

Together, Sneha and her father nurture the land to build a vibrant farm called ‘BaapBeti Farms’, where they grow a diverse array of fruits and vegetables such as chillies, brinjals, and strawberries.

Their farm became a self-sustaining enterprise, generating up to Rs 80,000 monthly.

Beyond farming, Sneha started hosting guests, offering immersive experiences through Airbnb. These visits were immersive, from guided tours by her father, to hands-on activities like harvesting and soil composting.

For Sneha, every day is a learning experience. “Observing the growth from seed to plant to harvest is immensely rewarding. I don’t feel I can survive in the cities now. This is my life, dedicated to sustainability.”
