Gota Patti, an intricate embroidery craft, originated in the royal courts of Rajasthan. It blends Mughal and Persian artistry to create intricate designs using golden metal ribbons.
Gota Patti is a prominent design in traditional Indian garments like lehengas, sarees, and kurtis, valued for its unique texture and sparkle.
High-end brands often sell Gota Patti work at inflated prices, capitalising on its appeal to tourists. Jaipur-based Sidhi Garg identified this gap and focused on affordability.
“A lot of agents rob people in the name of intrinsic value. Customers are being charged as high as Rs 14,000 per fabric piece. I did not find it ethical,” she adds.
The former software engineer went on to launch ‘Kurta Ghar’ in 2022 to make Rajasthani traditional wear affordable.
Her skill of blending colour combinations with graphic designs helped her create pieces that effectively made Kurta Ghar’s products one-of-a-kind.
With prices starting from Rs 1,995, Kurta Ghar's products aim to democratise access to Rajasthani craftsmanship, balancing quality with affordability.
Initially reliant on Instagram, Kurta Ghar expanded its digital presence to reach international markets in Canada, the United States and Australia.
Sidhi gets around 200-300 orders in a month from her website, clocking an annual revenue of about Rs 30 lakh.
“I started the business with a mere Rs 7,000, but a grand vision and personal calling. If we weave passion and perseverance together, we can truly create something extraordinary,” she says.
