At 25, lawyer Shreya Sharma from Pune embarked on a mission to simplify legal help in India. Her journey began when she met a woman struggling with a property dispute. The glaring lack of accessible legal advice became her driving force.

While studying at Cardiff University, Shreya discovered online legal directories in the UK. She was moved by the ease with which people could find legal help abroad — something India lacked.

After returning to Pune, Shreya decided to bring the idea of an online legal directory to India. With her father's support, she hired interns and laid the foundation for ‘Rest the Case’, a platform designed to provide credible legal information and connect users with vetted lawyers.

Launched in 2021, ‘Rest the Case’ aims to simplify legal assistance, making advice more accessible and easy to understand for people across the country.

“Rest the Case provides vetted information under one roof,” says Shreya. From filing templates to lawyer directories, the platform has become a "Yellow Pages for lawyers", spanning over 200 Indian cities.

Convincing lawyers to join the platform wasn’t easy. Many were sceptical of her idea. However, with persistence, Shreya onboarded 30 lawyers initially. Today, her network has grown to over 1,200 lawyers nationwide.

The service is free for users, providing them with easy access to legal knowledge. Lawyers can subscribe to paid packages, which offer verified client leads and a Client Management System (CMS) to streamline case management.

“From filing a case to finding the right lawyer, we make legal help as simple as clicking a button,” says Shreya.

Belonging to an entrepreneurial family, Shreya always had a drive for business. “I grew up watching everyone work hard. My family’s influence shaped my business acumen,” she shares.

Today, Shreya also runs a podcast, ‘Legally Speaking With Rest the Case’, in which she decodes legal topics. Her advice? “Know the laws that impact you. Legal awareness is as important as financial literacy.”

With a team of 15, Shreya aims to expand her network further across India. “We provide you with all the information that you need even before visiting a lawyer. You want to file an FIR? Here’s a template which you just need to fill in,” Shreya explains.
