Srinagar-based Sheikh Yameen still remembers the joy of Kashmir’s snowy winters from his childhood — a stark contrast to today’s reduced snowfall and rising pollution.
“Back then, the snowfall was so generous that it felt like a celebration; sometimes we’d get over a foot and a half of snow. The snow felt like a gift from nature,” says Yameen.
Now, he says, Kashmir is among the most polluted regions with smog and traffic congestion, dulling its natural beauty — a far cry from the Kashmir of his memories.
Motivated to reclaim the beauty of their home, Yameen and his friend Zubair Ahmed Bhat launched Curve Electric to foster sustainable transportation in Kashmir.
Established in 2022 as an e-bike rental service, Curve Electric offers e-bikes specifically designed to handle the region’s rugged terrain.
The unique features of their e-bikes include switchable modes between manual and electric, a high-torque motor, and a detachable battery for easy swaps.
With 55,000 rides covering 7,50,000 km, their service reduces emissions while offering a more affordable and efficient alternative to cars and motorbikes.
Users enjoy seamless rentals — no apps required — with GPS tracking for safety and considerable time saved on daily commutes.
“More than just a transportation solution, our e-bikes are a symbolic leap toward a cleaner, more sustainable future,” Yameen shares.
Recently, the startup earned widespread recognition and praise on Shark Tank India Season 4. “Although we didn’t bag a deal, it helped us put our goals in front of the country and highlight the issue,” he adds.
Their progress is reflected in the numbers — starting with Rs 14 lakh in collective savings, the duo achieved an annual revenue of Rs 30 lakh last year.
