Ever heard of Sangti? It's a tiny village nestled in the Himalayas in Arunachal Pradesh, and it has got a big dream: zero waste.

Like many places, Sangti faced a growing waste problem. But instead of giving in, they decided to take action.

And at the heart of Sangti’s zero-waste mission is Ittisha Sarah, a 32-year-old woman who believes in the power of community and knows that real change starts with people.

Ittisha doesn't just tell people what to do; she works with them. She's helped villagers set up a community model for waste segregation.

They've come up with some seriously clever solutions! Think traditional composting methods mixed with modern ideas — it's all about what works best for Sangti.

First comes sorting. Every household in Sangti separates their waste — dry, wet, and recyclable. It's the foundation of the whole system.

Then comes the composting magic! They use traditional methods to turn organic waste into nutrient-rich compost, perfect for their gardens.

Recyclables get a second life! Plastic, paper, metal — it's all collected and sent for recycling, reducing what ends up in landfills.

And guess what? It's working! Sangti's transformation is already visible. They're becoming a shining example of what's possible

Ittisha's not just working within the village. She's connecting with local Government and other organisations to get the support Sangti needs.

Her dream is bigger than just Sangti. She hopes their story will inspire other communities to embrace sustainable living.
