Padmini Janaki, a product manager from Chennai, always saw the potential of technology. What she didn’t realise is that this fascination would lead her to create a startup aimed at transforming female healthcare.
In 2021, Padmini launched Mind & Mom, a startup using artificial intelligence (AI) that helps women through every stage of motherhood, from pregnancy to parenthood.
Raised by a single mother, Padmini noticed something. People expected women to become mothers, but they hardly ever spoke about the challenges of motherhood.
“Women should be fully aware of what it entails and have full support if they decide to get pregnant,” Padmini thought while she was pursuing her bachelor’s in visual communication.
Her turning point came in 2019, during a work trip to Nashville (US), where Padmini encountered young, pregnant girls unaware of the full scope of parenthood. This moment was her wake-up call.
Determined to offer guidance, Padmini spent the next year developing a model to support women before and during pregnancy, leading to the creation of ‘Mind & Mom’ in 2021.
The startup quickly gained recognition, winning a Rs 10 lakh grant from StartupTN’s TANSEED 2021 initiative. Today, it has positively impacted over two lakh women.
Mind & Mom’s app guides women through fertility journeys, offering mental and physical health support, whether they are considering IVF or natural pregnancy methods.
“Women don’t always have someone to guide them. Mind & Mom is built to guide women from the moment they decide to start a family, whether it is through IVF or natural means," shares Padmini.
Dr. Kanimozhi Karthik, fertility expert, praises the app for helping women manage their health amid busy lives. It ensures they never miss a step on their fertility journey.
With AI powering the app, women can track their menstrual cycles, receive health advice, and connect with trusted IVF clinics. The app even offers financial support options for treatments.
“It is fascinating the way AI has evolved and can support very advanced features on the app. Things have changed immensely when it comes to reproductive health because of technology,” says Padmini.
