Imagine having a friend who would nudge you every time you needed to take your medicine dose.

A Class 11 student from Gujarat has created just this!

‘Meditel’ is an innovation by 15-year-old Nikhil Lemos that was born out of an idea he had to help his grandparents who would often forget to take their pills.

While the basic prototype had an alarm system, Nikhil introduced a reusable water bottle into the device, attached by velcro.

The third component was the pill organiser for those who take multiple doses specific to meal-times.

“Meditel allows users to set up to six daily alarms, accommodating various medication schedules like pre/post breakfast, lunch, and dinner,” Nikhil explains.

For his innovation, Nikhil won the INSPIRE Awards (2023) — a national-level science fair organised by the Department of Science and Technology.

He also received recognition from UNICEF and in November 2023, Nikhil was given an opportunity to present his innovation to David Beckham, UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador.

As Nikhil points out, the innovation will be useful, not just for the elderly but also for youngsters who forget to take their medicines on time.
