“It is a familiar environment for me since childhood. Naturally, I developed a genuine fondness for the wild,” says Manoj. This deep connection prompted him to make wildlife protection his life's mission.
Manoj realised his calling after his first successful rescue in 2005. “Working as a tourist guide, I always wanted to help wild animals in need,” he says.
Despite dropping out of school after the tenth grade, Manoj's passion for wildlife conservation ignited a desire to make a difference.
In 2006, Manoj took a one-month course at the Bombay Natural History Society, solidifying his resolve to dedicate his life to wildlife rescue.
Starting with 11 like-minded members, NRSB has grown to 100+ members. Manoj has rescued over 6,000 animals, including wild boars, leopards, and pregnant deer, ensuring their safe return to the wild.
“I have learnt mostly through experience, and each animal is as special as the other,” he says. His rescues also extend to flood-affected wildlife, often requiring travel in harsh conditions, and he never refuses a call, no matter the time or distance.
In 2013, Manoj partnered with the Corbett Foundation, expanding his rescue operations and reaching even more animals in need. The foundation widens the range of the rescue missions, enabling Manoj to continue his work.
In 2014, Manoj was honoured with the ‘Wildlife Warrior’ award by the Corbett Foundation, recognising his dedication and growing influence in the field of wildlife conservation.
Manoj's rescues have often been perilous, including a daring encounter with a 14-foot-long King Cobra.
Beyond rescues, Manoj is dedicated to educating the public about wildlife conservation. He shares his rescue stories to nurture the next generation of wildlife protectors.
