In 2013, Lohith Reddy walked away from a tech career — straight into a rose farm. He had no formal training, just a deep love for flowers and a determination to make it work.
Back then, Lohith had just completed his electronics engineering. While everyone expected him to join the tech world, he quietly chose a different path.
His love for flowers started in school, inspired by his cousin, Gopal S Reddy, a flower farmer since 1995. He actively helped when Gopal moved to protected cultivation.
“I realised I wanted to gain hands-on experience in flower farming,” says Lohith, who took over his cousin’s rose farm in 2013.
“I started with gerberas because they could yield for more than three years,” he explains, guaranteeing a steady income from the start.
Seeing potential in chrysanthemums, Lohith planted 4,000 square metres of them, alongside gerberas, diversifying his farm for greater success.
Chrysanthemums were challenging due to their light sensitivity. “It requires 17-18 hours of darkness, which is only possible during winter,” he says.
Through experimentation and artificial methods, he mastered growing high-quality chrysanthemums, becoming a trusted supplier.
Lohith Flora now produces 1,500 bunches of chrysanthemums weekly, earning Rs 7 lakh per month, with a focus on quality and freshness.
“We plant flowers every ten days, ensuring that the production is continuous. The key to success in this business is consistency,” the entrepreneur shares.
With over 20 employees, Lohith is also contributing to the local economy with his successful flower business.
