Ever heard of a bus stand that blooms every monsoon? Yes, right here in India, we have a bus stop that turns purple with wild garlic blooms in a quiet village called Nambikolly in Kerala’s Wayanad.

The spot that was once just a shelter turned into a viral beauty spot, all thanks to two locals who took care of the shelter for the last 12 years and ensured the plants bloomed every monsoon.
Today, the once-neglected bus stop attracts Instagrammers, schoolchildren, and tourists alike.
It was started back in 2012 by two locals, Joy Kottukkara, a daily wage laborer, and E S Varghese, a local farmer. The stop was just a public spot that was often misused by miscreants and neglected, too.

The duo then decided to plant a wild garlic creeper simply to keep snakes away as the plant emanated a strong scent.

Joy and Varghese silently took care of the creeper and watered it regularly. They patiently saw the creeper grow and cover the entire structure and one day, there were blooms all over.

Their act also inspired many in the locality, and people who visited the bus stop often also started taking care of the plant

What was once just a bus stand for commuters or a place to take shelter for people traveling long distances, suddenly became a landmark for Nambikolly village.

The purple flowers not only brightened the space but also elevated it. Passers-by started to respect the bus stop. Today, it is clean and protected by the people who use it. (Info credits: thebrighterworld.com/)
