Every year, New Delhi’s UPSC coaching hub attracts thousands of aspirants from all corners of the nation.

These aspirants establish themselves in small, windowless PG accommodations, believing that coaching institutes and relocating to the capital are essential for cracking the prestigious UPSC examination.

However, Akash Chavda, who secured an All India Rank of 1007 in the UPSC exam, debunks the notion that success requires a Delhi stint.

He challenges the common belief, stating that it is not necessary to relocate to Delhi for UPSC preparation.

“This might have been true a few years ago when online resources and guidance were limited. If you feel that your home environment is not conducive to studies, you can rent a place in a nearby town and join a library,” he says.

“While it is not crucial to go to Delhi, it is important to have a mentor and a structured study routine,” adds Akash, who sought guidance from a retired DFO (Divisional Forest Officer) during his preparation journey.

Drawing from his personal experience, Akash shares that he prepared for the rigorous exam from his village in Somnath district, Gujarat.

He opted to stay at home, surrounded by nature and the support of his family, rather than seeking coaching in nearby cities like Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad.

Emphasising the significance of consistency, self-assessment through tests, and effective resource management, he stresses that success is attainable with dedicated efforts and a structured study routine.

He advises aspirants to thoroughly understand the syllabus, solve previous years’ questions, and leverage online resources for efficient preparation from home.
