In every corner of India, these compassionate doctors are going above and beyond to care for the underserved — not for money or recognition, but out of pure humanity.

1) Dr Ramanand Singh In Bihar’s Barbigha village, Dr Singh has become a lifeline for thousands.  For over three decades, he has treated the poor for free, often going a step further by paying for their medicines, medical equipment, and even meals from his own pocket.

2) Padma Shri Dr Arunoday Mandal Every weekend, Dr Mandal travels 160 km to run a free clinic in Higal Ganj, West Bengal — one of the most remote and underserved regions.  Even at 71, the ‘Sundarban Ke Sujan’ (Sundarban’s nobleman) continues to care for over 12,000 villagers annually, offering not just medicine, but hope.

3) Dr Sunil Kumar Hebbi When the COVID-19 crisis surged, Dr Hebbi converted his car into a mobile clinic. By day, he drove through Bengaluru’s underserved communities; by night, he worked at a BBMP clinic.  He has now treated more than 1.2 lakh patients!

4) Dr Pushkar Waknis With his 'Spreading Smiles' initiative, Dr Waknis performs free surgeries for children with cleft lips, a condition that can hinder speech, nutrition, and confidence.  His work has transformed the lives of hundreds of children from underprivileged backgrounds.

5) Dr Manoj Durairaj An AIIMS-trained doctor, Dr Durairaj performs life-saving heart surgeries at no cost for patients who can’t afford them, especially children.  His clinic also offers free consultations and monthly medication — making heart care accessible to the most vulnerable.
