In Uttar Pradesh's Jaunpur district lies Madhopatti, a small village with a big reputation. Known as the 'IAS Factory', it’s home to an extraordinary legacy of civil servants.

This village, with just 75 households, has produced 51 IAS and PCS officers. Its influence extends beyond bureaucracy, with villagers excelling in ISRO, BARC, Judicial Services, and even the World Bank.

Fun fact: Madhopatti doesn’t even have any coaching centres! Then what’s the secret behind these glorious achievements?

The roots of Madhopatti’s success can be traced to its focus on education. Back in 1917, freedom fighter Thakur Bhagwati Din Singh and his wife, Shyamrati Singh, started a quiet revolution by educating children.

Shyamrati initially began teaching girls in the village, and soon, boys joined her classes as well. For 22 years, she taught children without charging any fees, earning the revered title of ‘Guruji’.

Shyamrati’s dedication continues to inspire Madhopatti to this day. In her honour, the village established the ‘Srimati Shyamrati Singh Prathmik Vidyalaya.’ Her legacy lives on through her family, which has contributed six IAS officers to this remarkable tradition.

Interestingly, Madhopatti holds the unique record of four siblings becoming IAS officers – Vinay Kumar Singh, Chatrapal Singh, Ajay Kumar Singh, and Shashikant Singh.

These brothers went on to achieve incredible milestones in their careers. Vinay Kumar retired as Bihar’s Chief Secretary, while Chatrapal served as Tamil Nadu’s Chief Secretary.

Inspired by such remarkable individuals, the village continues to prioritise education, aiming to nurture future leaders in administration and civil services.
