Grow Mushrooms at Home in a Clay Pot With This Easy Method by a Rajasthan Doctor

28 June 2025

That broken mitti ka ghada lying around? Turns out, it’s the perfect tool to grow mushrooms! Rajasthan’s Dr. Bairwa discovered a super-easy way to grow oyster mushrooms, right inside a clay pot.

Why it works - Clay pots keep mushrooms cool, moist, and breathing, even in hot weather. Plus, they’re reusable and totally eco-friendly.

What you’ll need - You don’t need fancy equipment. Just an old pot, dry straw, mushroom seeds (called spawn), a drill to make holes, and some cotton or cloth to seal the magic inside.

Step 2: Prep the pot - Use an old, unglazed clay pot. Drill small holes all around, especially at the base. Then clean and dry it well. The pot’s natural breathability helps mushrooms thrive.

Time to grow - Layer the straw and mushroom seeds inside the pot. Seal the holes with cotton or tape, and cover the top with thick cloth. Keep it in a dark room for 12–15 days. No peeking, no moving.

Harvest time! After about 3 weeks, remove the cloth. You’ll spot tiny white mushrooms peeking out. Let the pot hang or sit open in a cool spot. In just a few more days, you’ll have a fresh harvest ready for your next meal.
