In Pics: An Engineer’s Team Is Giving Indian Railway Stations a Makeover You Need to See

During his train travels, when Nilesh Nagra from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, would see open urinals and paint chipping off the walls at railway stations, he felt repulsed.

A civil engineer by profession, he discussed with his friend about beautifying railway stations through paintings.

He and his friend proposed a 3D artwork project that would promote the local heritage, art, culture and traditions.

What began with a small team of five people now has over 145 artists, and their company, ‘Satrangi Creations’, is widely known in the railway circles.

“So far [until 2022], we have covered 48 stations and an area of 7 lakh square feet. The idea is to encourage people to keep the stations clean by having a unique creation. It is unlikely that you will throw garbage in a spot that looks stunning,” he says.

While some of their projects are funded by the railway department, others are supported through CSR initiatives or self-funded.
