After years of living the Swiss dream, Varun Gupta and Ite Kaul yearned to return to their homeland. Their love for the mountains ignited a passion project: Himalaica, a luxurious retreat nestled in the serene Himalayas.

In 2019, Varun and Ite found the perfect location for their vision in the lush surroundings of Nainital. The site had a wood structure, surrounded by streams and forests, that captured their imagination.

"Making the move back after dedicating so many years of our careers abroad was a significant decision. It all began when we first laid eyes on the land where Himalaica stands today,” says Ite.

Himalaica, near Nainital, is more than just a resort; it's a testament to the couple's love for nature and their desire to share its beauty with the world.

Inspired by Swiss chalets and British villas, the resort seamlessly blends architectural styles with local materials, creating a cosy and elegant ambiance.

“We used stones from the Kolar River nearby to make the structure,” explains Varun.

For adventure enthusiasts, Himalaica offers a plethora of outdoor activities. Trek through verdant trails, spot exotic bird species, or gaze at the celestial wonders under the clear night sky.

The resort also provides opportunities for quiet contemplation, such as reading or simply soaking in the tranquillity of the surroundings.

The food at Himalaica remains another highlight, with chefs ready to prepare any cuisine. The resort also offers cooking lessons to guests wishing to learn the preparation of any delicacy they like.

Apart from being a luxurious retreat, Himalaica is also a sustainable haven. The resort is committed to preserving the environment and supporting the local community.

By implementing eco-friendly practices like composting and rainwater harvesting, they strive to minimise their ecological footprint and create a positive impact.

"We have a compost unit for wet waste and harvesting rainwater. Our goal is to become 100 percent self-sustaining and eco-friendly,” says the couple.

To further support the local community, the couple also funds the education of their staff’s children.
