Sahil Jain, a chartered accountant with a flourishing career at a Mumbai-based multinational company, traded his corporate routine to chase his passion for a food startup.
Drawing inspiration from his mother, Meena, a seasoned nutritionist, Sahil embarked on a journey to create nutritious and innovative food products.
Starting from their kitchen, the mother-son duo experimented with various health-conscious recipes and millet-based products.
In 2018, they launched ‘Mighty Millets’, offering over 50 varieties of preservative-free products, such as nutrition bars, granolas, millet-based cookies, noodles, pasta, pancake mixes, and vegetable chips.
Gradually, they developed a loyal customer base. Today, Mighty Millets supplies over 50 hotels including the Taj Group and JW Marriott in Pune, Bengaluru, Delhi, and Mumbai. Last year, they clocked an annual revenue of Rs 50 lakh.
What laid a strong foundation for Mighty Millets’ success is Meena’s expertise in nutrition and quality control, combined with Sahil’s business acumen. However, building a business from scratch was not easy.
Sahil says, “Except for our knowledge in nutrition and finance, everything was new to us. The initial year was extremely difficult and slow.”
It took them about a year and a half to establish themselves. “The most important thing in running a business is having patience,” Sahil adds.
Sahil also points out that any food startup demands meticulous attention to detail in product manufacturing. “Every single packet involves significant risk; there can’t be any mistakes. If a complaint is raised, your whole reputation can go for a toss,” he says.
To prevent such a situation, Meena ensures strict quality control – from cleaning raw materials to manufacturing the final products.
Today, Meena is overjoyed to run a business alongside her son. The duo’s journey highlights the rewards of working together as a family and the satisfaction of creating a successful venture from scratch.
