Bihar Headmaster Spends Rs 2 Lakh of His Own Money to Turn a Neglected School Into a Green Haven

From garbage dump to green haven This school in Bihar’s Suryapura village was once a dumping ground. Today, it’s a blooming paradise where children learn surrounded by nature.

Abandoned and forgotten Amid the pandemic, the Government Middle School lay empty. With no wall or guard, it turned into a hotspot for drinking, gambling, and trash dumping.

One man took charge When schools reopened, headmaster Baijnath Kumar was heartbroken. Instead of filing complaints, he picked up a broom — and a mission: restore dignity and make the school safe for students again.

Green revolution begins A gardening enthusiast, Kumar spent Rs 2 lakh from his pocket. He planted trees, flowers, and creepers across the 1.5 bigha campus.

No funds, only faith He built a bamboo fence to keep trespassers out. With zero government help, he relied on savings and local support to keep going.

From stink to scents The smell of waste was replaced by roses, mogra, champa, bougainvillaea and neem. Students now study beside flowerbeds and trees.

A campus that teaches more Over 25 species grow here today. Children water the plants, study under trees — and learn care, discipline, and pride.

It became a movement Teachers, parents, even local police joined in. “We feel proud to come here now,” says a student.

A school that inspires Visitors from nearby villages come to see it. No garbage. No fear. Just green spaces, happy kids, and quiet transformation.

The headmaster’s legacy Baijnath Kumar proved that change begins with action. Without waiting for help, he turned a dumping ground into a dream school. One sapling at a time, he built a place where children can grow with pride, protected by shade, flowers and hope.
