The Rameshwaram Cafe in Bengaluru is a bustling 24/7 eatery renowned for its podi masala dosas and idlis. Long queues of hungry customers are a testament to its popularity. The self-service model further adds to its vibrant and energetic atmosphere.
Founded by IIM graduate Divya Rao, the cafe pays homage to APJ Abdul Kalam, taking its name from his birthplace, Rameswaram.
After becoming a chartered accountant at just 21, Divya pursued an MBA at IIM Ahmedabad. There, she studied marketing strategies of successful food chains, which inspired her to innovate in the South Indian dining scene.
Despite facing initial resistance from her family, who preferred a traditional, high-paying career for her, Divya’s passion for food and entrepreneurship proved decisive. This resolve marked a pivotal moment in her journey.
Inspired by the success of McDonald’s, KFC, and Starbucks, Divya dreamt of creating a world-class food chain. Her vision was to elevate South Indian cuisine and share its rich flavours with a global audience.
Teaming up with her husband, Raghav Rao, a food industry expert, Divya harnessed their combined skills to launch the cafe. Their partnership has been pivotal in the cafe’s rapid growth and success.
The cafe is celebrated for its ghee-soaked dosas and fresh idlis, paired with spicy chutneys. Each dish is made with high-quality ingredients for a delightful dining experience, contributing to the cafe’s loyal following.
The cafe’s delicious offerings have gone viral on social media, attracting food bloggers and celebrities alike. This online buzz has drawn a constant stream of eager customers.
Open from early morning to after midnight, the cafe caters to both night owls and early risers. This accessibility ensures that customers can enjoy healthy meals at any time of the day, further solidifying the cafe’s position in Bengaluru’s food scene.
The restaurant is said to generate Rs 4.5 crore in monthly earnings, resulting in over Rs 50 crore in annual revenue. With a successful foundation, the couple plans to expand internationally, with outlets in Singapore and beyond.
The Rameshwaram Cafe shows the spirit of perseverance and passion in the culinary world. Divya and Raghav Rao serve as an inspiration to aspiring entrepreneurs everywhere. As they continue to expand, they remain committed to sharing the flavours of South India with the world.
