Born premature, Simran Sharma suffered from vision impairment since her birth. She couldn’t see beyond six feet. Growing up, she was bullied and teased by her neighbours in Ghaziabad. They even mocked her walking posture, taunted her and doubted her capabilities.
Simran’s mother became her rock and helped her follow her love for running races. But it was her husband Gajendra who became the wind beneath her wings.
Her husband turned her interest into becoming a strong international runner. Gajendra, who was serving in the Indian Army, began training her for international championships.
He even sold his land to support her dreams, and Simran never looked back!
Winning several tournaments, the visually-impaired athlete made history by becoming the 200m Para World Champion in the recent World Para Athletics Championships held in Japan.
Now, she targets gold at the 2024 Paris Paralympics. “The aim is to repeat hearing the national anthem in Paris,” she said.
She is expected to compete in Women’s 100m T12 Round 1 on 4 September, 2024.
We are rooting for you Simran!
